Tooth whitening can be a highly effective way of lightening the natural
colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface. It cannot make a complete
colour change; but it will lighten the existing shade.
The total treatment can usually be done within three to four weeks.
First, you will need two or three visits to the dentist. An impression is taken and a
tray that looks similar to a mouthguard is made. Treatment is completed at home. The tray
is a close fit around the teeth and the whitening product is placed into little wells
built into the tray and held in contact with the teeth. The tray is worn for 30 minutes
to one hour at a time. The application continues nightly over two to four weeks,

On occasion a front root filled tooth in a prominent
position may discolour. Whitening of teeth in these positions can be very conservative
and can be a good, conservative alternative to a veneer or crown.
